The Old Malt Kiln

Originally part of the historic Ebor Brewery, this project involved the redevelopment of a former Victorian malting house into six distinctive homes, carefully balancing the industrial heritage of the building with the needs of contemporary living.

Working closely with the developer, bespoke kitchens, bathroom vanity units and fitted storage were designed, crafted and installed throughout each property. The brief was to create interiors that felt sympathetic to the character of the original building while introducing a calm, functional and timeless approach to modern living.

The architecture and surviving original features heavily influenced the design of each home. Existing proportions, structural elements and historic detailing informed both the layouts and the cabinetry design, allowing the new interiors to feel connected to the building’s past rather than imposed upon it.

Each bespoke kitchen was carefully designed to sit naturally within the scale and character of the individual spaces, combining practical layouts with understated detailing and durable materials suited to everyday use. Across the bathrooms and living areas, fitted vanity units and integrated storage were crafted to create continuity throughout the homes while maximising functionality.
All cabinetry was handmade in the workshop and installed with close attention to proportion, finish and materiality. The result is a collection of homes that retain the character and authenticity of the original Victorian building while offering thoughtful, well-resolved interiors designed for modern life.
